White makes your skin tone look warmer and more golden, and though I am also partial to ivory and cream items, I encourage you to seek out standard white shade. You can accessorize with color, but bold accessories in gold, silver and black can look fabulous when set against a white outfit. Depending on the style and cut of the dress you may not need to accessorize much at all.
I think white is great for a night out on the town, but I've also worn all white to the office before and it's great for just casual outings too.

I've attended a couple events in white cocktail dresses, here's one from last summer:
I don't abide by too many style rules, like forgoing white after Labor Day, but I have to say I still fall on the side of tradition when it comes to wearing all white to a wedding, which I feel is a don't (unless it's a special request by the bride). And white stockings are a definite no-no, unless perhaps you are the bride, otherwise stick to bare legs.
If you haven't before, maybe now you'll consider a white frock for your next picnic, event or just as a refreshing option for your Monday through Friday work wardrobe.
P.S. Ladies, before dashing out the door be sure you select appropriate undergarments in either black or nude tones so you have no worries about any "oops" moments!
Happy Shopping!
